WeMos D1 WiFi Shield — ESP8266 ESP-12E for Arduino Uno
The WeMos D1 WiFi Shield plugs onto an Arduino Uno R3 and gives it 2.4GHz WiFi via an ESP8266 ESP-12E module. The shield communicates with the Uno over UART using AT commands — the Uno sends commands, the ESP8266 handles the TCP/IP stack and WiFi. Alternatively, select the ESP8266 standalone mode to bypass the Uno entirely and program the ESP-12E directly from the Arduino IDE using the ESP8266 board package.
- ESP8266 ESP-12E — 2.4GHz WiFi, 4MB flash
- AT command mode — Uno sends WiFi commands over UART
- Standalone ESP8266 mode — program the ESP-12E directly
- Fits Arduino Uno R3 headers
- CH340G USB interface for direct ESP8266 programming
Best for
Adding WiFi to existing Uno projects via AT commands, learning ESP8266 WiFi without a separate breadboard, standalone ESP8266 development in the Uno form factor, and IoT projects bridging Arduino sensors to a WiFi network.
