RAMPS 1.4 Shield for Arduino MEGA — 3D Printer and CNC 5-Axis Controller
RAMPS 1.4 (RepRap Arduino MEGA Pololu Shield) is the standard control board for RepRap 3D printers and 5-axis CNC machines built around Arduino Mega 2560. It accepts five stepper driver modules (X, Y, Z, E0, E1 axes) in Pololu-footprint sockets, provides heated bed and hotend MOSFET outputs, three thermistor inputs, six endstop inputs, and connections for LCD displays. It runs Marlin firmware on the underlying Mega 2560 (not included).
- 5 stepper driver sockets — X, Y, Z, E0, E1 (Pololu footprint)
- Heated bed MOSFET — 11A rated, for 12V beds
- 2x hotend MOSFET — for extruder heater blocks
- 3x thermistor inputs — bed and two extruders
- 6x endstop inputs — min and max per axis
- Arduino MEGA 2560 required — not included
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Compatible MCU | Arduino Mega 2560 |
| Stepper driver sockets | 5 (X, Y, Z, E0, E1) |
| Heated bed MOSFET | 11A rated |
| Hotend MOSFETs | 2x (D9, D10) |
| Thermistor inputs | 3 |
| Endstop inputs | 6 |
| Firmware | Marlin 1.x and 2.x compatible |
Is the RAMPS 1.4 compatible with Marlin 2.x firmware?
Yes. Marlin 2.x supports RAMPS 1.4 via the MOTHERBOARD define in Configuration.h (BOARD_RAMPS_14_EFB or similar). Marlin 2.x adds features over 1.x including unified bed levelling, linear advance, and S-Curve acceleration — all fully functional on RAMPS 1.4 with a Mega 2560 running at 16MHz.
Best for
RepRap Prusa i3 3D printer builds, custom 3D printer upgrades, 5-axis CNC routing, laser cutter controllers, and anyone building a DIY 3D printer who wants a proven, well-documented control board.
