Basic Electronics Starter Set — Breadboard, LEDs, Resistors and Jumper Cables
This basic electronics starter set gives you the core components needed to build your first circuits on a 400-hole breadboard without buying parts separately. It includes 15 LEDs across three colours, two 5528 photoresistors, three tactile buttons with caps, a selection of resistors, and a set of flexible jumper cables. Everything is designed for breadboard use — no soldering required.
- 400-hole breadboard — accommodates most introductory circuit layouts
- 15 LEDs — 5 red, 5 yellow, 5 green
- 2x 5528 photoresistors — resistance drops from ~1MΩ in darkness to ~10kΩ in daylight
- 3x tactile buttons — with matching button caps
- Jumper cables included — flexible dupont wires, male-to-male
- Resistors included — value selection suitable for LED current limiting
What resistor value should you use with the LEDs?
For a 5V supply, use a 220Ω resistor in series with each LED to limit current to approximately 15mA — a safe operating point for standard 5mm LEDs. For a 3.3V supply, a 100Ω resistor gives a similar brightness. The resistors in this kit cover these values.
Is this set compatible with Arduino and Raspberry Pi?
Yes. All components are breadboard-compatible and work with 3.3V and 5V logic systems including Arduino Uno, Arduino Nano, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi GPIO headers. The photoresistors read as an analogue voltage divider on any ADC-equipped board.
Best for
First electronics experiments, school STEM kits, Arduino Uno beginner projects, Raspberry Pi GPIO introductions, LED blinking and fading exercises, light-sensor circuits, button debounce practice, and electronics gift sets for ages 12 and up.
