Arduino Uno R3 Compatible Board — ATmega328P (SMD) and ATmega16U2 DIP

This Arduino Uno R3 compatible board ships in two sub-variants: an SMD version with the ATmega328P in a surface-mount package alongside a CH340G USB chip, and a DIP version with the ATmega328P in a removable 28-pin socket alongside an ATmega16U2 for genuine USB communication. Both run identical Arduino sketches and are programmed from the Arduino IDE selecting the Arduino Uno board definition. The DIP variant allows IC replacement without soldering if the microcontroller is ever damaged.

  • ATmega328P microcontroller — 32KB flash, 2KB SRAM, 1KB EEPROM
  • 14 digital I/O pins — 6 with PWM (pins 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11)
  • 6 analogue inputs — A0–A5, 10-bit ADC
  • 16MHz crystal oscillator
  • USB-B programming port — standard cable, no driver on Win10/11
  • 5V and 3.3V regulated outputs — 3.3V at up to 50mA

What is the difference between the SMD and DIP versions?

The SMD version uses a CH340G for USB and has the ATmega328P soldered in an SMD package — compact, but the MCU cannot be swapped without reflow soldering equipment. The DIP version uses an ATmega16U2 for USB (genuine HID support) and has the ATmega328P in a removable 28-pin DIP socket — the chip can be extracted and replaced, or programmed in a dedicated programmer separately from the board.

Is this 100% compatible with official Arduino shields?

Yes. The R3 header layout — including the extra SDA/SCL I2C header and the additional IOREF and reset pins — matches the official Arduino Uno R3 specification. All Arduino-certified shields and libraries work without modification.

Best for

Learning Arduino, breadboard prototyping, shield-based projects, electronics education, robotics, home automation, sensor hubs, LED control, and as a replacement Uno for any existing project.
