BMP180 Digital Barometric Pressure Sensor Module
The BMP180 measures barometric pressure from 300 to 1100 hPa and temperature from -40°C to +85°C over I2C, making it a compact single-board solution for altitude estimation and weather monitoring. At sea level, the BMP180 resolves altitude changes of approximately 0.25 metres in ultra-high-resolution mode. The module operates at 3.3V–5V and includes onboard pull-up resistors, connecting directly to Arduino and ESP32 I2C pins.

How do you calculate altitude from BMP180 pressure?
The Adafruit BMP085 library (compatible with BMP180) provides a readAltitude(seaLevelPressure) function. Pass the current sea-level pressure for your location (available from local weather services in hPa), and the library returns altitude in metres. Without a local reference, use the ISA standard of 1013.25 hPa — accurate to within +/-100m at most UK locations.
Is the BMP180 still available, or should I use the BMP280?
The BMP180 is discontinued by Bosch but widely available as remaining stock. The BMP280 is the direct successor, offering lower power consumption and slightly better resolution. For new designs, the BMP280 is the better choice; the BMP180 works fine for existing projects or where you need a known-good part.
