DFPlayer Mini MP3 Player Module — TF Card and Serial Control

The DFPlayer Mini is a compact MP3 decoder that plays audio files from a micro SD card independently of a microcontroller, or under serial UART control from an Arduino or ESP32. Files are stored as numbered MP3 or WAV files on the SD card; the Arduino sends single-byte commands over software or hardware serial to play, pause, skip, or set volume. A built-in 3W mono amplifier drives a speaker directly without a separate amplifier board.

How do you play a specific track from Arduino?

Name files as 0001.mp3, 0002.mp3 etc. in the root of the SD card. Use SoftwareSerial on pins 10/11 and the DFRobotDFPlayerMini library from the Library Manager. Call myDFPlayer.play(1) to play track 1. The module responds with a serial acknowledge byte when the command is received.

Does the 3W amplifier output sound well enough for a small speaker?

Yes. At 5V supply, 3W into a 4-ohm 50mm speaker produces clearly audible audio for notifications, voice announcements, and short sound effects. For background music in a room-sized project, add an external 10W–30W amplifier board on the DAC line-out pins.
