DS18B20 Waterproof Digital Temperature Sensor — Stainless Steel Probe

The DS18B20 waterproof probe encloses the Dallas DS18B20 temperature sensor in a stainless steel tube sealed with epoxy, making it submersible and suitable for liquid temperature measurement in aquariums, brewing systems, and soil probes. It communicates over Dallas One-Wire protocol, sharing a single digital pin with up to 64 sensors on one bus — each identified by its unique 64-bit serial number. Resolution is configurable from 9 to 12 bits, giving 0.0625°C per step at maximum resolution.

What resistor do you need for the DS18B20?

A 4.7k ohm pull-up resistor on the data line to VCC is required when operating in externally powered mode. In parasitic power mode (data pin powers the sensor), a stronger 2.2k ohm pull-up is recommended. Without the pull-up resistor, the sensor reads unreliably or returns -127°C as an error code.

How do you read multiple DS18B20 sensors from one pin?

All sensors connect data lines together to one Arduino pin with a single 4.7k pull-up. The DallasTemperature library by Miles Burton scans the bus, enumerates each sensor by address, and allows individual or simultaneous reading. Call sensors.requestTemperatures() then sensors.getTempCByIndex(0) for the first sensor.
