Soldering iron tips are consumables: the part that wears out, and the part that decides how clean your joints are. We stock genuine tips for the most common UK fitments, Hakko-compatible 900M-T (from £1.45), YIHUA 902 (from £1.55), and cartridge C210 and C245 tips (from £5.90), all in UK stock. Here is how to choose the right standard and shape.

900M vs C210 vs C245: which tip standard?

The first question is not the shape, it is the standard your handle accepts. There are two families:

  • 900M-T (and YIHUA 902) tips slip or screw onto an iron whose heater sits in the handle. Cheap and everywhere, they are ideal for everyday electronics and fit most YIHUA and Hakko-style stations such as the YIHUA 937D+ and 939D+ III EVO.
  • C210 and C245 cartridges put the heating element inside the tip itself, so heat-up and recovery are far faster, the standard used in professional stations like the YIHUA 982. C210 is the slim cartridge for fine micro-soldering; C245 is the larger one for general and heavier work.

Choosing a tip shape

Once you have the right standard, pick the shape for the job:

  • Chisel (B/D): the all-rounder. The flat face transfers heat well for through-hole, headers, wires and most SMD. If you buy one shape, make it a 2 to 3mm chisel.
  • Conical / needle (I): a fine point for tight, delicate joints. Lower heat transfer, so use it only where a chisel will not fit.
  • Bevel / hoof (C): a cut face that holds a little solder, great for drag-soldering fine-pitch ICs.
  • Knife (K): for drag-soldering and clearing solder bridges along a row of pins.

Soldering iron tips FAQ

What is the difference between 900M, C210 and C245 tips?

900M-T tips slip onto an iron whose heater is in the handle, cheap and great for everyday work. C210 and C245 are cartridges with the heater inside the tip for faster heat-up and recovery: C210 is the fine cartridge for micro-soldering, C245 the larger one for general and heavier work.

Which soldering iron tip should a beginner buy?

A 2 to 3mm chisel tip in your station’s fitment (usually 900M-T). It handles around 90% of beginner work, far better than the pointy conical tip most kits include.

Are your soldering iron tips genuine?

Yes. We supply genuine tips in UK stock with fast delivery, not counterfeit “compatible” tips that transfer heat poorly and wear out fast.

What about T12 tips?

T12 is a different cartridge standard to the C210 and C245 we stock, and is not interchangeable with them. Our cartridge range is C210 and C245 (as used by the YIHUA 982); for 900M-style irons, use our 900M-T tips.

How long do soldering iron tips last?

With good care, tin before use and storage, clean on brass wool rather than a wet sponge, and never run the tip dry, quality tips last many months of regular use. Neglected tips oxidise and die in weeks.
